Highly anticipated neighborhood newcomer Call Your Mother finally arrived this week in Park View, inviting carb lovers to park on colorful rocking chairs while throwing back bagels and coffee.
The “Jew-ish” deli comes from Andrew Dana and 2017 Eater Young Gun Daniela Moreira — the duo behind essential D.C. restaurant Timber Pizza Company. The nucleus of the operation is a massive, hot pink Marra Forni brick oven that’s tasked with baking heaps of bagels that make up the heart of the menu.
An inventive early highlight from the starting lineup of five seasonal bagel sandwiches ($8 to $10) is the #4: a plain bagel packed with house-made peach jam, cream cheese, bacon, jalapeño, and Call Your Mother chips. While circular carbs are the star at Call Your Mother, the menu also features a long list of twists on traditional deli fare, like pastrami empanadas and white fish croquettes. A seven-item sandwich section includes a hot dog on a house-baked challah roll and wood-fire roasted turkey.
