Opened in January and located in Arlington, Virginia, the Taverna is the famed restaurateur and Bravo’s Top Chef contestant’s second regional Greek restaurant. To design the interiors, Isabella tapped the Washington, D.C.-based general contracting firm to work alongside Streetsense to design a space that reflects his vision, food and service.

Throughout the construction process, Rob Mescolotto, founder and owner of Hospitality Construction Services, coordinated with Streetsense to reduce construction costs by sourcing high-quality materials that not only fit into the budget, but brought the design firm’s vision to life.

The restaurant’s look begins with the same rustic, earth-toned inspirations used in the original Kapnos.

Inside the new 5,700 sq ft, bi-level space, the team paired eclectic lighting fixtures, terracotta tile, live herbs and plants, and custom millwork to create an urban, Mediterranean atmosphere for guests.

An ebony-stained, distressed wood fronted bar with a charred wood back is designed to convey a sense of the outdoors. The dining area exudes a comfortable Mediterranean garden feel highlighted by a steel-framed vertical herb garden punctuated with lava rock.

Overlooking the display kitchen hangs a spacious dining mezzanine. In the spring, a 60-seat patio and fire pit was added to further enhance this new dining experience.
